The Journey Youth & Disability Support Services - The Journey Camps - The Journey Able Community
ABOUT THE JOURNEY ABLE COMMUNITY
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to provide youth with disabilities the opportunity to improve their general wellbeing and be a part of something bigger in their community. In addition, we focus on having fun and enjoying our time together - everything we do revolves around our values “Community, Growth & Fun”.
WHAT WE ARE ABOUT
We understand how hard it can be to find a physical social outlet as the “one size fits all” rule does not apply when it comes to physical programs for youth with disabilities. Because this approach is used all so often, our youth are forced to “fit in” with mainstream programs which usually results in them feeling left out, falling behind and not getting the enjoyment they deserve out of the program of their choice. We understand this and that is why we’re here.
OUR COACHES
Through fun, engaging exercise we work towards building a healthy coach/role model relationship which allows us to positively influence our youth. Our ‘coaches’ aim to guide our participants to identify any conquerable ‘limitations’ they may face on a daily basis and develop the ability needed to overcome them. It is the coach’s role to facilitate a fun, positive growth based environment that our youth can thrive in, therefore creating their community.
THE ABLE COMMUNITY EXTRAS
We have been extremely blessed to acquire access to a quiet, privately owned gym in Warana Sunshine Coast. Having this space means we are a lot more flexible with what we can offer and who we can offer it to. Because it is a private gym environment, we are able to develop personal, authentic relationships with our youth with no outer distraction.
We have access to a variety of functional movement equipment and a generous open space area which is ideal for our group sessions and activities. The space is very quiet when Able Community is running sessions, this means sessions become more focused with none of the interferences you would experience in a larger, busier gym.
Through amazing partnerships
The Journey Community are extremely lucky to be able to offer extra programs outside of the gym. These activities are an amazing way to connect other like-minded youth that may not be a part of the able community that want to become more social and achieve their potential.
These programs include:
• Social group outings e.g. BBQ afternoon, Mt Coolum climbs, etc.
• School holiday programs
• Adventure camps (partnered with Pindari Life).
• Support services (The Journey Support Services)
• Day events
& much more to come!

OUR 1:1 GYM PROGRAM
Our 1 on 1 gym program is aimed at improving the general well-being of youth with disabilities in a positive, growth based environment through customised programming and a healthy coach/participant relationship. We want each of our participants to realise that exercise doesn’t have to be a chore, we want them to walk out of sessions feeling accomplished, confident and finish with a smile on their face.
Sessions are run by qualified fitness professionals (coaches) who will guide participants through the process and ensure they are kicking their goals and most importantly HAVING FUN. We understand each participant is unique so we pride ourselves in being able to offer an intuitive approach to exercise during sessions which has proven to be effective for our clients.
SOCIAL OUTINGS
Our social group outings are another great way to connect like-minded individuals in the community. We will be running regular ‘hangouts’ so our youth can enjoy each other’s company, gain friendships and HAVE FUN. Our outings will consist of BBQ hangs, conquering mountains, bush walks and everything community.
SPORTS CAMPS
Please email our friendly staff for further information on our sport camps.
MENS GROUP FITNESS PROGRAM
Our Young Men’s Groups are run every fortnight on a Saturday morning. Sessions Include:
Fun games , Team building exercises, Mini competitions, Educational/Topical men’s talks, Group exercise, BBQ’s, Treks and much more.
The purpose of these groups is to bring young men with disabilities together, so that one day, our Able Community sessions will not be necessary and our young men will independently organise hang outs by themselves. Our groups are based around our key values; Community, Growth & Fun. Groups are run by experienced coaches who have a strong understanding of different disabilities and are there to facilitate the needs of each individual participant.
